Support Our Horses

Our horses are the heart of the Southern STARRS program. It costs approximately $700 per month to ensure each of our program horses receives the highest level of care. This includes feed, hay and hay pellets, medicine, supplements, staff time for cleaning and grooming, as well as regular veterinary and farrier visits.

Your sponsorship, in any amount, helps us continue providing exceptional care and keeps our horses healthy, happy, and ready to serve riders of all ages and abilities. We would love to have you join us in supporting one of these incredible partners in healing.

Chloe

Born in March 1997, Chloe is 29 years young and full of personality! Standing at about 13 hands high, she’s the perfect match for riders who prefer being closer to the ground. Chloe is a Rocky Mountain Saddle Horse known for her reliability, smooth walk, and gentle spirit.

Chloe holds a special place in our hearts, she belongs to our co‑founder, Terry, who has generously allowed her to be part of the Southern STARRS program for many years. (Thank you, Terry!)

Chloe’s Quirks:

• She’s a clever one who always knows where the hay is! If the stall door isn’t locked, she’ll quietly nudge it open and sneak in for a few bites.
• Chloe also has a unique sense of cleanliness, she prefers a tidy stall and will back up just enough to drop her manure outside the stall door.

Chloe’s calm nature and steady pace make her a favorite among riders and volunteers alike. She’s a wonderful reminder that experience, patience, and a touch of mischief make for the perfect therapy horse.

Lily

Lily is a stunning Tennessee Walking Horse and Rocky Mountain mix, born in April 2002. Standing tall at  around 16 hands, she’s the proud matriarch of our barn, graceful, confident, and deeply loved by everyone who meets her.

As the tallest horse in the herd, Lily naturally takes the lead. She’s the first to step out of her stall, the first to greet the day, and the first to remind everyone that she’s in charge. Her strong spirit and gentle heart make her a favorite among staff, volunteers, and riders alike.

Lily's Quirks:

• She’s a bit selective about who she shares her hay with, after all, leadership comes with standards! And while she may have the occasional “disagreement” with her pasture mates, she always keeps her dignity intact.

• When it’s time to ride, Lily shines brightest with our more advanced riders, moving with purpose and energy. Yet she’s also incredibly intuitive, slowing her pace and softening her steps for smaller or less experienced riders, ensuring every moment in the saddle feels safe and calm.

Harley

Born in January 1998, Harley is a proud Tennessee Walking Horse standing at about 15 hands high. He brings a big personality to the barn and never fails to make everyone smile. Harley insists on being the first to take a bite of grain, then lifts his head and gives a confident nod, as if to say it’s the best thing he’s ever tasted.

Harley's Quirks:

• If Harley’s stall happens to be left unlocked overnight, he’ll always notice, and take full advantage of it. He’ll open the door, stroll straight to the tack room, and head for the grain cans. He knows exactly which one to open, helps himself to a snack, and then wanders to the hay stall to finish off his midnight feast.
• Harley is a sensitive soul, the kind who, if you show him something ninety‑nine times, will start questioning it on the hundredth. His thoughtful nature and curious mind make him one of the most endearing personalities in the barn.
